The Jatta's Palace
The Jatta
The Jatta’s Palace was built between 1842 and 1844 by Luigi Castellucci the Architect from Bitonto (a town near Ruvo di Puglia) and it was wonted by Giovanni Jatta The Senior (1767 – 1844) and his sister in low Giulia Viesti (1795-1848) to host the private archaeological collection. Giovanni Jatta The Junior (1832 – 1895) lived here with his huge family.
Nowadays the building is divided in four parts and two of these, the ones that are on the main staircase, are still owned by the family.
The apartment you can visit (there's a 5 € ticket per person) is the most representative part in which is saved the old fashioned furniture, the original floors and the old paintings.
Eight rooms are open to the pubblic: the entrance, the chapel, the living room, the bedroom for guest, the library, the dining room, the dancing room and the gallery of the ancestors. www.palazzojatta.org
The Jatta's National Archeological Museum
The Jatta
This is one of the most interesting examples of private collection.
It was created by the brothers Giovanni Jatta the Senior (lawyer) and Giulio Jatta (soldier) in the first half of the 19th century with ancient vases coming out from the land of Ruvo di Puglia, wich was an important peucetian necropoli, in Magna Grecia.
You con visit (it's completely free) the four rooms where more than 2000 items from the 3th to the 7th century B.C. were set by Giovanni Jatta the Junior in the typical esthetic criteria: from the worse ones to the best one, wich is the famous Talos Vase. www.palazzojatta.org
